Hi! My name is Lorelai Lewis and I am a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison! I currently study art history and philosophy and will graduate next spring.
I grew up in Denver, Colorado, and Rochester, Minnesota. I am thrilled to be spending my summer at Carnelian Art Gallery. I have always had a passion for the art world.
Growing up, my mom worked in a natural history museum and I ended up spending a lot of time there. I loved the atmosphere of the museum and knew I wanted to work in a similar environment.
Fast forward many years later, I am pursuing a career in art museums and galleries. One thing I love about galleries like Carnelian Art Gallery is its emphasis on accessibility and community building.
The art world has a history of elitism and exclusionary practices, so this change in rhetoric is refreshing.
My love for art extends beyond studies. I consider myself an artist. I love painting, writing poetry, and throwing pottery. I have been part of UW-Madison's "Student Art Show" for the past three years and have won a couple awards for my paintings.
I am so grateful for this opportunity to gain practical experience this summer at Carnelian!
