Hi! I’m Abigail Chavez, I'm so excited to be joining the team at Carnelian Art Gallery.  I'm a third year student at UW Madison, majoring in communication arts and art education, with a certificate in digital studies.

From an early age, I had a passion for art and learning. I grew up surrounded by art and creativity in my hometown of Chicago. I took advantage of any opportunity I could to participate in the art community in Chicago, including non-profit work in art education. I quickly learned the importance of nurturing strong community ties in the arts. At the same time, I was fascinated by science and was unsure of what my career could look like.

This array of interests led me to an internship in advertising, where I was able to combine my love of science with art. The blend of research, psychology and art made me excited for the future.

I found Carnelian’s internship program through a service learning class at UW. It’s the perfect opportunity for me to expand my creative and professional capacity. I'm excited to be working alongside Emilie and Evan, becoming a part of the thriving Madison arts community.

When I am not at the gallery, I enjoy painting, reading, crocheting and spending time with my cat.

I'm so excited for this opportunity, and I can't wait to gain hands-on experience.
