Hello, my name is Nalani Lucier and I am thrilled to be interning with Carnelian Art Gallery this summer. I have loved learning about the inner workings of a rising art gallery.
I am a dual-major in anthropology and creative writing and I am working towards an art history certificate. This coming fall semester, I will be a Junior on-track to graduate in the following spring. After graduation, I plan to jump right into my graduate degree.
I have always had a passion for anthropology, specifically, museum studies. In exploring this interest more, I realized the art involved in curation. Whether it be the layout of physical art pieces in the exhibit, or displaying poems to match a theme of the works, I became interested in strengthening the creativity of curation.
In the future, I see myself as a curator in a natural history museum. I would love to work in Washington at the Smithsonian. I wanted to use my free-time this summer to step on the first rung of that ladder. I can use my attention to detail at a small local gallery, Carnelian, to create a more personalized experience at a national museum.
Carnelian has been the perfect place for me to explore the intersections of my interests. I have been learning more about curation, marketing, and networking. I am even working on a special poetry project for an upcoming show with one of our permanent collection artists.
When I am not at the gallery, I am writing poetry about my journey through life. I also love spending time with my cats and listening to new kinds of music.
This summer has allowed me to see my passions in a new light. I have begun forming connections in the Madison arts community that will help me in my future endeavors. I am so grateful to Carnelian for showing me how I can put my passions to work.
